Edelweiss Lodge and Resort 2009

Friday, Jan 9th - 11th, 2009
We spent this weekend at the Edelweiss Lodge and Resort in Garmisch, Germany. http://www.edelweisslodgeandresort.com/home.html
All I can say is BEAUTIFUL! I forget how pretty the Alps are! It's just so amazing to me every time I see it. The Edelweiss is a new lodge that was built on the military base in Garmisch just a couple of years ago. All of the military health clinics got together there this weekend for their military ball. There's dinner, awards, skits by each group and dancing. During the friday night event Rebecca and Sara stayed at the child care on base with the other children and played. Becca did very well but poor little Sara is just too young to understand that mommy and daddy will be back and cried for a long time (per the call I received). By the time we picked them up everyone was fine.
We decided to stay an extra night at the lodge and enjoy the area. Saturday morning after a huge breakfast we drove up the mountain to visit Linderhof Palace. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linderhof
Scott has been here twice before in the summer when the garden was in full bloom but even being covered by snow was pretty. Rebecca and sara enjoyed walking through the forest and the gardens to the castle. It is one of 3 castles that King Ludwig built (the most famous being Neuschwanstein).
We drove back down the mountain and walked around the pesdestrian only area of Garmisch and had a snack/beer/coffee to warm up. Garmisch looks like what most people expect Germany to be. Bavarian! Scott and I both think Bavaria is the nicest part of Germany and really enjoyed ourselves here.
Back at the lodge we took the kids to the pool and to the sports bar for dinner later that day. It was a very full day and we really enjoyed exploring the area. Enjoy all the photos.
