Our first visitors

Aug. 22nd - 24th, 2008
David and Hanna came to visit us this weekend. It was so wonderful to see David again (we went to UMKC together) and meet Hanna whom we'd heard so much about. We spent Saturday exploring the area of Flossenbürg. So far this castle ruin has been the easiest to get to. Rebecca always loves to visit the castles. This time she found the "guest bedroom" and the guest bed that she is jumping on in the photo. Sara enjoyed crawling around the castle grounds. The view was very beautiful.
Flossenbürg:
The ruins of Flossenbürg Castle, built in around 1100, sit in splendour overlooking the town of the same name. A path leads up to the castle, which is accessible all year round. Flossenbürg is well known for its abundance of granite. The onion-shaped granite beds can still be seen today at the foot of the ruins. The extensive excavations and renovations here are as impressive as the spectacular views.

After visiting the castle we headed towards one claim to the Middle Point of Europe (there are many). We stoped at a camp ground on the way and had curry wurst and a Russian. In southern Germany, a mix of Weißbier (wheat beer) and lemonade is called a Russ (“Russian”). It was very good. Rebecca was warn out and fell asleep on mommy's lap. Sara was still ready to party and didn't nap til we headed for home. She must have been enjoying the view from the terrace. We took a photo from here as well.

Saturday evening we had a traditional KC dinner of BBQ ribs, coleslaw, corn bread, and green bean casserole. On Sunday we took David and Hanna to Grafenwoehr Army Base where we spent the afternoon shopping and eating at Taco Bell. (They do not have this in Germany) There was a lot of Beef Jerky, Nerds, Bloody Mary mix, and Mountain Dew purchased that day along with many other items. As you can see Davids car was completely full before we left.

We had a great time and hope they come to visit us again soon.
